Alexandre Masino

+ About the Artist

Québécois artist Alexandre Masino’s work relishes in the versatility and potential of encaustic (wax). Though he is regarded for his interpretation of traditional subjects like still life, landscape and the figure, to him, the gestures he creates in wax carry as much weight as the subject or meaning. Oscillating somewhere between mimesis and invention, Masino is equally inspired by observed reality, memory, and imagination to create his texturally rich and sensual paintings.

Masino holds a BFA with honours from Concordia University and has been exhibited widely since 1996 across Canada, the United States and Europe, where his work can be found in numerous prestigious collections including: the Gotland Museum of Fine Arts (Sweden), Chateau de Beaulon (France), Stephen A. Jarislowsky (Jarislowsky Fraser), Heenan Blaikie LLB and The Right Honourable Paul Martin. His paintings have been the subject of several catalogues and were featured in the book Encaustic & Beyond: A Guide to Creating Fine Art with Wax, by Lissa Rankin.
