France Jodoin

+ About the Artist

France Jodoin is a painter based in Cowansville, Québec, known for her fluid application of oil paint and masterful understanding of colour. Struck by the uneven temperaments of the sea and sky, her land and seascapes are not so much about subject or place as they are about atmosphere. Drawing on a collection of imagery, music and poetry for inspiration, Jodoin ultimately paints intuitively without a specific place or subject in mind, striking a delicate balance between abstraction and figuration. She is celebrated for her ability to bring a contemporary understanding of materials to a twentieth century exploration of space, often calling to mind Tuner’s churning, emotive skies and Courbet’s impasto landscapes.
