Bénédicte Dussère lives just outside of Paris, in Clamart. She is a graduate of the École National Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD). Originally a graphic designer, her work has shifted over the years to a full time studio practice focusing on painting and drawing.
Creating with a palette comprised solely of black, Bénédicte Dussère creates sweeping compositions of light and shadow from her Parisian studio. Dussère uses Mylar or a custom blend of polyester and linen to achieve a remarkable smooth surface texture. Applying minimal amounts of oil paint with deliberate gestures and using modified or handmade tools gives her images velvety depth, while she attempts to capture the deep and dense forms from her memory and imagination. Dussère chases a sense of the ephemeral in the surface of her paintings, not to impose thoughts and imagery, but to offer an experience.
